Gilead – HEP CAN’T WAIT

The goal was to recognize the 10-year anniversary of Sofosbuvir, Gilead’s drug that has saved millions from dying of HCV-related complications, and to highlight the ongoing work needed. Canada, along with several other countries and the WHO, has pledged to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030. Unfortunately, we are not on track to meet those elimination targets. Initially, the idea was a wall of commitment at CLM and a social media campaign, but it evolved into something much more impactful.? We worked closely with the Gilead team to develop a five-month O2O20 campaign that included endorsements from CASL, CanHepC, Action Hepatitis Canada, and the Canadian Association of Hepatology Nurses. There was regular communication via newsletters and social media in the lead-up to CLM on the Hep Can’t Wait campaign. A photo booth at CLM allowed delegates to take photos that were added to Hep Can’t Wait branded postcards, which included calls to action on both provincial and federal government levels. These postcards were printed and mailed to all provincial and federal health ministers. Digital copies of the postcards were shared online over the next three months following CLM, culminating in the lead-up to Canadian Viral Hepatitis Elimination Day (or Hill Day) in Ottawa. This event included civil society groups and CASL board members lobbying for more testing and treatment to support the elimination of viral hepatitis in Canada. The campaign received recognition from Gilead globally.
